Day 4--Reinforcements have arrived!

Not too much to report--Friday was spent working on supporting the second floor and raising the roof, so to speak. There is still a bit of work to be done on this Monday, but here are some pictures so you can see the progress so far:

You can see where the old rafters were cut away and new wood laid alongside the old inside the roof.

Even those two tall vertical timbers were removed, reinforced from the inside, and then replaced.

C likes the old wood timbers so much he suggested leaving them as the new walls; I gently nixed that idea, but it has been very cool to see how our home was built and how strong and sturdy it still as after almost 140 years!
